A little about Burghal Mythos

Burgh´al

Definition: Belonging to a city.

Synonyms: Urban

Mythos

Definition: myth or mythology.


If you haven't been following my blog or my art series. Burghal Mythos: A Fascination in Human Nature, is my upcoming book. It is centered around the darker and stranger myths from around the world.

It will be stylized like a Children's book but my hope is that it will be palatable to everyone. Kind of like The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories meets Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. All of the art from last year's series will be in the book along with several others.

Here is the working preface at the moment.

The world is filled with myths and lore
Quirky stories that people adore

Some can be funny and some can be light
But many are scary and can give you a fright

It is the dark tales of death and despair
That humans find fascinating, their minds ensnared.

What is it that causes so much delight
In the evil things things that go bump in the night?

Are they a warning of what could be
Or perhaps a strange way to reconcile destiny?

Whatever the reason, I present to you
This Burghal Mythos for you to read through.Hopefully I will have it done come this September.

I'm estimating at least 30-40 pages.

Soul Tree 2 and VUDUCON shenanigans

So here are the beginnings of Soul Tree Part 2. It's just a rough pencil "on the fly" idea of what I'm thinking. I have to start planning now as it takes so long to do.

Now that my plate is far less crowded, I'm starting the process for continuing my book: "Burghal Mythos" and maybe so more goodies for VuDu Con. If it doesn't make book form by then, I will at least have the art prints to add to last years. Of course I'll have buttons and some coffins but I think I'll limit myself a little more this year. I really wat to focus on the book.

Incidentally, VUDU Con is actually a CON now! Sinister is looking to have a great deal more artists. Cos Play, costumes, and even stiltwalkers are allowed this year! Here some info but hit the link for the most up to date info.

Costumes and Cosplay is allowed this year. So come dressed and have fun!
No Nudity, and if your wearing a mask or prosthetics you must have a valid ID in order to gain access to the event.

Stilt Walkers are allowed this year. No real restrictions for you all just watch your surroundings, some places at the Villas are low including the restrooms.

We will have a full bar with signature drinks at the event. DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN.

The Aftermath

I apologize to anyone who has been following for the complete and utter lack of updates since 5 days before VUDUCON. Things have been really busy and there are so many social sites to keep up with.

VuDUCON was a complete success despite the last minute threatened cancelation. Had a great time and sold enough to break even for this year and last year… Yay! Oddly, I sold more from last year’s series than this year’s so I’m glad I brought them back. Also the costume worked out very well. More pics can be seen on my

I have finally put both my art series up to purchase on Zazzle. You can pick up a 4x6 print for a paltry $.70 if you were so inclined ($4.85 for a 8x10) Yes that means all 20 of my prints would cost a mere $14.00 (Plus S&H). If all goes well, Burghal Mythos will be expanded to a book by next go around.

The soul tree is coming along. Hopefully it will be done by Halloween so the 5 kids who show up to my house on a Monday Halloween will be impressed. The picture was actually taken about 16 work hours ago so it is way behind. The two biggest drawbacks to papier-mâché art are that it is time consuming and that if you live in a humid climate, like Florida, it dries ridiculously slowly. The upsides are the cost and you can pretty much build anything you could with clay or fiberglass.

VUDUCON cometh

So there are only 5 full days till VUDUCON at this point. I am just finishing up everything for the show. Painting a couple new coffins and I had to touch up a pic that didn't scan in right. But, aside from printing I'm ready.

One of the new coffins is inspired by the new Thing movie..I haven't decided what the other will be yet.

In regards to VUDUCON 2011

I will have my Meetz Meats apron (seen in the my The Scratchings of JWFearman picture), various buttons and shirts including two all new HHN buttons, My VuDu coffin/candles from last year, another small candle set, two very limited edition soaps ('Season of the Queeen' and 'Plague Doctors'), My art series from last year "Dread Till Drawn", Art from "Circus Tent Full Of Ghosts" by The LieProducingFactory, and this years new series "Burgal Mythos".


I have been a bit quiet lately... Lots of work going on. I should have something to look at soon.

Scarecrows and Circuses

Just got off the phone with Chris Lewandowski of Circus Tent full of Ghosts after our Q&A. When it's posted I will share it. I am definitely excited about making this book happen.

Working on the 5th installment of Burghal Mythos as well. So I'm a bit of a drawing fool lately. I should have a new teaser soon.

I started designing my scarecrow for Halloween! Here is the prelimminary draft:

The idea here is a tortured soul in tree form. Inspired by pumpkinrot's "Roots" Scarecrow. I plan to have the chest open with a red-glowing heart... Now I just need to find that pile of skulls... I know I left them somewhere...

Last year I designed a steampunk hat as I intended to go in steampunk for VUDU Cinema. The problem was I simply ran out of time in making the costume. I have drastically changed the idea and now it will be much easier to create (airship mechanic) for VUDUCON. I do however have to drop from a 36 waist to a 34-32 as Czech military pants don't fit me currently.

The Fearman Cometh

Today I am kicking off my Blog. Here I will post what is going on in my world pertaining to my art.

Currently, I am throwing around ideas for my new art series to debut at VUDU CON in September. I haven't decided on the subject but I have decided on the medium... watercolor. I may be doing a job for someone (how's that for vague) and the request was to show my work in in a watercolor format. I liked it so much that I am going to do the new series the same.


This job would put my book on hold for now. But a paying job is a paying job.

I recently did the HHN counter (seen at top of page) and the Intro animation for Horror Night Nightmares.

I just created a concept sketch for a Horror Nights Icon... The Ancestress

She is based off the German story of Die Anhfrau.

She is the ghost of a adulterous woman who was cursed to see people's fate but she is completely incapable of preventing this fate. If she is seen, it means your time is near.

After she accidentally destroyed her entire lineage trying to prevent their demise she became twisted and came to like the torment she could cause.

She is now a harbinger of death and anyone whom would dare to gaze upon her spectral visage. Once her victims pass, some by her own twisted imagination, she collects their souls and forever traps them in her blood colored looking glass pendant... From which her power manifests.

Unfortunately I wont be able to post a lot of what I'm doing right now... But I will post what I can.
