Work Begins

Here is the start of the paper Skeleton I hope I will be able to use in the tree this year. It's tricky because he is basically made of card stock. But it's all paper and glue anyway... so we'll see. I guess, if I have to, I can replace the head. If it works though it may be a lighter, more economical way to make trees.

Soul Tree 2 and VUDUCON shenanigans

So here are the beginnings of Soul Tree Part 2. It's just a rough pencil "on the fly" idea of what I'm thinking. I have to start planning now as it takes so long to do.

Now that my plate is far less crowded, I'm starting the process for continuing my book: "Burghal Mythos" and maybe so more goodies for VuDu Con. If it doesn't make book form by then, I will at least have the art prints to add to last years. Of course I'll have buttons and some coffins but I think I'll limit myself a little more this year. I really wat to focus on the book.

Incidentally, VUDU Con is actually a CON now! Sinister is looking to have a great deal more artists. Cos Play, costumes, and even stiltwalkers are allowed this year! Here some info but hit the link for the most up to date info.

Costumes and Cosplay is allowed this year. So come dressed and have fun!
No Nudity, and if your wearing a mask or prosthetics you must have a valid ID in order to gain access to the event.

Stilt Walkers are allowed this year. No real restrictions for you all just watch your surroundings, some places at the Villas are low including the restrooms.

We will have a full bar with signature drinks at the event. DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN.

In retrospect...

So all in all a good night. we had 20-30 kids which is far better than the 4 last year. Gave out nearly all the candy.

The scarezone looked awesome. I added two red LEDs for the eyes and simply wrapped electrical tape around it with a 3 volt battery... they are still lit 4 hours later. I also added 4 drops of cinnamon and apple scent to the fog and it smelled wonderful.

The scarezone went up on Sunday afternoon and came down in less than an hour.

As always, I'm saddened by the final death nail in the haunt season that is Halloween (It starts in March for me )

I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome... That being said, it's not the end of the tree. He will return next year with a companion of some sort hopefully.

I have a story forming in my head and wouldn't mind telling it this way. I already have some ideas on how to improve the process.

Nearly There...

Building the Soul Tree

So the work continues. This blast of cool air is just what I needed to get this thing to dry... and not a moment too soon as Halloween is next Monday. I found nearly a perfect heart for him at Target (the only thing is it is slightly small). But it looks like a real heart and pulses a red light. More pics here

Stage one is almost done. the next step is to use paper clay to smooth out the inconsistencies. the paint and seal! But before that happens I have to somehow figure out what I need to do to make the long fingers above his head support their own weight.

Scarecrows and Circuses

Just got off the phone with Chris Lewandowski of Circus Tent full of Ghosts after our Q&A. When it's posted I will share it. I am definitely excited about making this book happen.

Working on the 5th installment of Burghal Mythos as well. So I'm a bit of a drawing fool lately. I should have a new teaser soon.

I started designing my scarecrow for Halloween! Here is the prelimminary draft:

The idea here is a tortured soul in tree form. Inspired by pumpkinrot's "Roots" Scarecrow. I plan to have the chest open with a red-glowing heart... Now I just need to find that pile of skulls... I know I left them somewhere...

Last year I designed a steampunk hat as I intended to go in steampunk for VUDU Cinema. The problem was I simply ran out of time in making the costume. I have drastically changed the idea and now it will be much easier to create (airship mechanic) for VUDUCON. I do however have to drop from a 36 waist to a 34-32 as Czech military pants don't fit me currently.
